My first chiropractic experience was out of desperation. I had such pain in my hands and numbness and every doctor offered surgery to cure the carpal tunnel syndrome I had. Neck Pain. Any Chiropractic Advice?
I am a 22 yrs old male, still studying in computer related courses and suffering from continuous neck pain. i have no accident history, dont drink and smoking. I’m getting so frustated because this pain interrupt my every activities. This pain begin about 2 yrs ago. Before that i had some pain at my back. One day, while i was doing a programming assignment, my neck suddenly felt pain and i thought it was temporary. Sometimes i got some massage but it has only temporary effect. The neck pain also goes to the shoulder. I cannot avoid from computer and i had this doctor from the government hospital which told me my neck bone is alright (after x-ray) and probably my muscle is stiffened. I’m getting angry coz i’m suffering and need some advice, maybe from a chiropractic practitioner. I have no other symptoms. Sometimes i use the neck collar to ease my pain when sitting in front of computer. The Voren pills aint working and i also used muscle balm.-

I had to use muscle relaxers. I actually need to speak to my doctor about getting back on them because I am having problems with my neck again. The neck pain can be cause from spending too much time in front of the computer, but if that is what your major is you don’t hae much choice. Try not to slouch in front of the computer. Sit up straight. Invest in a good chair for your house/dorm…they have massaging computer chairs. Have you tried weekly massages? This may be more helpful than just going once in a while.

I have had severe neck and shoulder muscle stiffness flare ups for 30 years. Most of the incidents are caused by stress. I’m finally getting to the point where I know I have to get some relief. Physical therapy or chiropractic?-

If stress is really the issue, either one will only offer temporary relief. Stress management is the real issue.However, many people feel that their pain and stiffness is “stress” related, when in actuality, it is movement and position related. We tend to associate it with stress because when we are stressed, we are usually working more prolonged periods in one position (such as writing or sitting at the computer). If this is really the issue, then I would recommend physical therapy. Manipulation might help, but might not even be necessary and will only be a temporary relief unless you learn how to counteract the movements and positions that are causing you pain. This is where physical therapy is of benefit. We focus on education about cause/effect relationship and what you can do to correct the problem and manage it yourself in the long run.
